Dubai: A fisherman in Bahrain got a pleasant Ramadan surprise on Wednesday when a Bahraini prince approached him on the street and made a business proposal he could not resist.
In a video posted on social media, Shaikh Nasser Bin Hamad Al Khalifa, son of King Hamad Bin Eisa Al Khalifa of Bahrain, was seen talking to a man peddling fish by the roadside in Hamad town.
Speaking in Arabic, Shaikh Nasser promised the fisherman a licence and a shop to run his business, and to make him a regular supplier of fish to LuLu, a major hypermarket chain operating in Bahrain. The fisherman was also asked if he needed a boat.
The meetup was witnessed by Juzer Rupawala, LuLu group director in the Gulf state and the fisherman was later identified as Mohammed Ali Falamarzi.
A spokesperson for the hypermarket told Gulf News that following the offer, their outlet in Bahrain will start buying Falamarzi’s daily catch from today, Thursday onwards.
But it wasn’t the first time the prince of Bahrain encountered the fisherman. Apparently, the son of the royal family had seen him several times on the streets and noticed how upbeat he’s always been about his job.
“[The Shaikh] sees this fisherman quite often. The fisherman used to talk positively and proudly about Bahrain and was always cheerful about his job. That’s why the Shaikh thought of doing something for him,” a source told Gulf News.
