From the locks of supermodel Cindy Crawford to the stylish, black mane of Bollywood beauty Aishwarya Rai Bachchan - these A-list hairstyles have all gone through the hands of star hairstylist Asgar Saboo.

The UK-based hair maestro has worked his magic on scores of celebrities and dignitaries around the world, making heads turn with his show-stopping and inspirational coiffures.

In the first of a series, Asgar provides expert tips on how to achieve some of the most popular hairstyles of one of Bollywood biggest icons, Shah Rukh Khan.

Long and wind-swept hair, as seen in Pardes

Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan in Pardes

Khan’s hair in Pardes is undeniably healthy-looking and thick, while still achieving a soft, effortless look. One of the benefits of being endowed with thick hair is the range of styles which you can pull off. Asgar would recommend this particular hairstyle to men with thicker hair, as often thin hair can look even more fine when long.

Asgar’s recommendation: To achieve this look, simply shampoo and condition so hair is clean, making sure to run a wide-tooth comb through the hair before rinsing out the conditioner. This will ensure hair is tangle-free and easier to blow dry.

Before blow-drying, use a thermal- protection spray on your hair and blow dry while brushing hair in a backward motion, from root to tip. By brushing the hair in a backward motion while blow-drying, it will fall naturally to the each side of the crown, achieving a very natural and wind-swept look.

Extra tip: Asgar recommends using a high-quality brush with natural bristles, in order to achieve the slightly bouffant look seen on Khan in Pardes.

Short and cropped, as seen in My Name is Khan

In My Name is Khan, Khan sports a short and sharp look.

Asgar’s recommendation: To achieve this look, Asgar recommends an all over-cut, in particular the sides of the head, which should be slightly more cropped in length than the rest of the head. In this film, Khan has a slight side parting and the fringe has an overall lightly-textured and soft, fluffy look. This can be achieved by using a very good quality shampoo. Alternatively, asking your hairdresser or barber to "de-bulk" your hair, will ensure that some of the weight is taken out of the hair, leaving it looking light and fluffy.

Extra tip: Be careful not to shampoo hair more than once a day however, as this can lead to hair looking overly-puffy.

Side-swept with stubble in Chak De India

Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan in Chak De India

In Chak De India, we Khan carry off a smouldering and very masculine style, combining long side-swept hair with a perfect amount of facial stubble.

Asgar’s recommendation: Much like the hairstyle seen in Pardes, the Chak De India look can be achieved by blow-drying hair in a backward motion using a natural bristle brush.

If your hair is thick, then it will naturally fall to the side. If your hair is slightly more fine, make sure to define your side-parting so that the majority of hair falls to the right and is set in place, as seen on Khan. A small spritz of mild-strength hair spray will ensure that this parting stays, without looking too stiff.

In Chak De India, Khan's stubble is on the upper lip as well as the sides of the mouth and the chin. Asgar recommends asking yourself whether a stubble will suit the shape of your face before growing your facial hair.

Extra tip:
Be aware that stubble requires regular maintenance. Be sure to use a shaving gel oil that doesn’t lather too much during shaving. This will allow you be able to see where the stubble on your face lies, while providing sufficient glide of the razor.
