I have been charged nearly Dh10,000, in terms of insurance charges imposed by FGB, which I never signed up for. While reviewing my 2016 personal credit card accounts I was surprised FGB had charged me nearly Dh10,000 for insurance, credit shield and late payment charges due to the insurance fees. Further interest had been charged on the overdue amounts for the insurance. I replied to the accounts manager who had signed me up for a FGB credit card, telling him I do not need insurance. Furthermore, I called FGB twice to cancel and reverse the insurances charged to me. They have cancelled the insurance but never reversed the charges. Please help me with this issue as I am very upset.

From Mr Malik Ali

The management of FGB responds:

FGB is grateful for all customer feedback to which we give careful consideration as we strive to consistently deliver the highest standards of service. The bank has been in contact with Mr Ali via email, and explained that as the insurance policy and interest fees on the total outstanding were clearly specified on the customer’s statements, FGB is unable to reverse the charges.

Mr Ali responds:

They have never sent me any email. I just received system generated emails (acknowledgement confirmation), when I submitted my complaint online. Furthermore, I get promotional emails every day from FGB. I have been chasing them on this issue for so long. I even spoke with them over the phone and was told one of their team members would contact me, but it never happened.

Editor’s note: The management of FGB stands by its initial response and has nothing further to add.
