The Indian Embassy here and its Consulate General in Dubai will stop counter delivery of processed Indian passports with effect from September 1.

According to Sujit Kumar, First Secretary (Consular) at the embassy, both missions will deliver processed documents to applicants only through Empost with effect from next month.

"With effect from September 1, Indian passports submitted to the Embassy of India in Abu Dhabi and Consulate General Dubai or for any other passport-related services will, after the service, be delivered only by Empost and not, repeat not, at the counters of the embassy and the consulate," said Kumar.

He further advised applicants to get in touch with the Empost Desk in the Consular Halls of the embassy and the consulate to purchase the required Empost sticker for Dh10 per application.

However, Kumar clarified counter delivery of documents will be available for emergency cases.

"Those availing of Tatkal [emergency] services will, however, be exempted from this provision and can, if they so desire, collect their passports designated counter," he explained.

In case of applications for visas and attestations of documents, according to Kumar, applicants have the option to use the services of Empost or collect their documents from the counter.

He further reminded that from September 1, the two diplomatic missions will observe their weekly holidays on Fridays and Saturdays instead of the current Thursday and Friday.
