Abu Dhabi: Measuring five metres in length, the UAE’s longest pizza was officially served on Tuesday by Abu Dhabi’s Itzza Pizza, with pizza lovers lining up to take a bite.
The massive pizza took an hour and a half to make.
“This was the longest wood-fired pizza to be cooked in the UAE. It was completely made from our home made dough,” said Ghulmiyyah M. Ghulmiyyah, owner of Itzza Pizza. “The reason we decided to make the longest pizza in the UAE was because of the Abu Dhabi Food Festival that’s taking place. Festival organisers suggested this idea to us and we were more than happy to go for it.
“The pizza was cooked by our chef and his main helper. We then had to transport it to our main shop. We couldn’t make the pizza at our shop because the oven wasn’t big enough, so we had to cook it in one of our kitchens in Mussafah.”
Ghulmiyyah also spoke positively on getting the community engaged thanks to the initiative.
“We have had a lot of people coming to our shop, people from all different types of nationalities, and that’s a great thing.
“At the end of the day it’s food, and food is for everybody, so everyone can enjoy this together,” he added.
To celebrate the UAE’s longest pizza, an eating competition was also held to see who could eat a metre of the pizza in the quickest time. Saeed Al Hammadi from the UAE finished first.
“I came to the store because I wanted to take some pictures of the pizza, but then I found out about the eating competition, and so I decided to take part, ” he said.
“It’s the first time in my life that I have done something like this, so it was a very nice experience, and also a great opportunity to eat pizza!”
