Abu Dhabi: Firoz Merchant, a philanthropist and founder and chairman of Pure Gold Group, was recognised by the Abu Dhabi Police for his significant philanthropic contributions to the country and inducted him into Abu Dhabi Police’s community initiative — ‘We Are All Police’.
The Indian businessman was specifically provided a citation for his efforts to release 560 inmates from prisons by paying off their debts and booking air tickets for them to return to their home countries, on the occasion of Ramadan, said a press release.
He received his membership No 560 for the initiative from Major General Mohammed Khalfan Al Rumaithi, Commander-in-Chief of the Abu Dhabi Police in recognition of his humanitarian efforts. Merchant was honoured with a commemorative shield in appreciation of his contribution to the community.
As part of this initiative, Merchant donated Dh650,000 benefiting 300 inmates at the Ajman prison and 260 inmates at other prisons in the country.
