Lebanese singer Ghada Shbeir and Syrian act Rasha Rizk will perform at the Flag Island Theatre on January 19, the closing night of the Sharjah World Music Festival (SWMF).
The sopranos will sing classical Arabic music and opera. Shbeir, the winner of the BBC Radio 3 World Music Award, will be accompanied by an orchestra, conducted by Mohammad Othman Sidiq. She’s known best for mixing traditional genres with Syriac and Maronite hymn, the Andalusian muwashahat, and the improvisational mawwal style.
Rizik, known for her fusion of Arabic music and jazz, will perform the same night.
SWMF runs for eight days, from January 12 until January 19. Tickets are available online.
