Is a home just made up of concrete and cement only? What about the dreams that are woven into it, asks Malayalam director Aji John in his second film, Namukku Parkkan.

Starring Anoop Menon and Meghna Raj, the story looks at a middle class man’s dream of acquiring his own home, based on a script by duo Jayan-Sunoj.

“Rajeev is a veterinary surgeon while [the character’s wife] Renuka works as a primary school teacher,” said John.

For the past ten years, they have been living in a rented house. An unexpected turn of events demands that they vacate their accommodation, compelling Rajiv and Renuka to build their own home.

“This will be a landmark film in Anoop’s career,” said John, an engineering graduate who worked as senior editor with Amrita television before donning the director’s hat in 2010. His first film was the Jayasurya starrer Nallavan.

Menon has also written the lyrics for three songs.

The film was shot in a rural area, around 35 km from Trivandrum. Finding the right location was the biggest hurdle he had to deal with, said John.
