Dubai: Poets from India, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, USA and China will recite poetry in Urdu and Hindi during an event on Thursday in Dubai.

The seventh annual Mushaira and Kavi Sammelan recital, organised by Hamari Association, will be held at the Shaikh Rashid auditorium, Dubai.

The event is held as part of efforts to preserve Urdu and Hindi poetry and generate interest in the two languages.

Hamari is a non-profit organisation registered with the Indian Community Welfare Committee at the Consulate General of India, Dubai.

The event is also linked to charity work, with a monetary award given to a beneficiary poet who is also recognised with a lifetime achievement award.

This year’s beneficiary poet, whose name will be revealed at the event, is from Pakistan.

The theme and message for this year is ‘Sarhadon se Aage’, which means beyond borders in Urdu and Hindi. Previous themes include peace and relationship building with Pakistan and the UAE.

Around 2,000 people attended the event last year, which is also viewed by more than million people on YouTube and Facebook.
