Dubai: Nakheel's Al Furjan residential villa community is the first of several of the developer's stalled projects in which construction is about to restart.

"Nakheel, Dubai's master developer, is pleased to announce the recommencement of construction work in Al Furjan with Al Shafar Transport and Contracting, the well-known and respected contractor with many years of experience in the construction industry of Dubai," a Nakheel spokesperson said.

The developer said earlier this year it was prioritising projects by order of urgency, taking into account construction stages, cost of completion, customer collections and market supply and demand. Al Furjan will be the first in a line of projects to be revived, including neighbouring Jumeirah Park and Jumeirah Village South. A statement by Nakheel last month confirmed that all short-term projects should be fully mobilised by early next month.

"Al Shafar Transport and Contracting Co LLC is the first contractor to recommence construction work on Al Furjan, one of our short term projects," the spokesperson added.

The first phase of Al Furjan and some villas in Jumeirah Park were originally expected to be completed this year. Jumeirah Park is now slated for completion in 2012.
