Dubai: It was one of Apple’s biggest launch events in years, yet there was hardly any talk about iPhone, Macs or even AirPods. Instead, the tech giant spent almost two hours talking about news, magazines, TV shows, video games and, yes, credit cards.

If that doesn’t seem a little odd to you, then remember that Apple doesn’t make any of those things. But over the past few years, the company that put Cupertino on the map has discovered that it can make very good money by selling content made by other people on its devices.

Apple’s event on Monday showed us the company is embracing that strategy, and it brought out the like of Oprah Winfrey and Steven Spielberg to help them do it.

Gulf New’s own Ed Clowes joins us on the podcast from California to talk about the event.
