Dubai: Khaleeji Bank said it has bought one million treasury shares on the Bahrain bourse.

With the purchase, the bank increased the total holding of treasury shares to 91 million shares, or 8.69 per cent of the paid-up capital from 90.09 million shares or 8.58 per cent, the bank said in a statement posted on Dubai Financial Market’s website.

A report issued by the Union of Arab Banks says Bahrain has ranked first in terms of the number of banks listed among the top 60 Islamic banks, and second in terms of the number of Islamic financial institutions in the Arab region.
