Abu Dhabi: Emirates Global Aluminium on Wednesday said that it’s bauxite mining project in the Republic of Guinea is 50 per cent complete with first bauxite exports commencing during the second half of 2019.

The $1.4 billion (Dh5.1 billion) project with a production capacity of 12 million tonnes of bauxite per year is one of the largest greenfield investments in Guinea in the past 40 years and will be a new global source of bauxite supply.

EGA is building the UAE’s first alumina refinery at Al Taweelah in Abu Dhabi and the first alumina is expected during the first half of 2019. The firm has signed an agreement with Compagnie des Bauxites de Guinée for the supply of the ore.
