Taipei: “Since its launch in 1985, Emirates has become a benchmark for the airline industry,” Chen Chwen-Jing, Political Deputy Minister at the Ministry of Transportation and Communications of Taiwan, said. He was addressing a joint press conference here with Shaikh Ahmad Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Civil Aviation, Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates airline and Group and Chairman of Dubai Airports, on Tuesday following the launch of Emirates’ non-stop service to Taipei a day earlier.
Chwen-Jing said that Taiwan could learn from Emirates and stimulate its domestic airlines to learn too. “By doing this, we can improve our own service and our international competitiveness. With the launch of this service, Taiwan will be able to attract tourists from Africa, Europe and the Americas. Even if 10 people fly to Taiwan from Emirates’ 140 destinations, the overall number will be large. We hope to be able to provide more assistance to Emirates,” he noted.
Meanwhile, Wan-Lee Lee, Deputy Director General of Taiwan’s Civil Aeronautics Administration, said that a world-class airline like Emirates flying to Taipei will create a “win-win situation” for both Taiwan and Emirates. “We already have an impression of Dubai as a great tourism destination ... and its geographic location will help us attract other tourists to Taiwan. We hope to see the load factor of Emirates increase. There is much we can collaborate on in the future,” he said.
