Cairo: Kuwait has revoked work permits of 1,774 expatriates in a single week, according to local media. They included 1,086 whose permits have been permanently cancelled due to their departure from the country, 127 others due to death and 561 for their holders’ stay outside Kuwait, figures from the Public Authority of Manpower have shown.

The agency, meanwhile, renewed 10,461 expatriates’ work permits since it launched an electronic system to process transactions on January 12.

The agency urged employers to send their applications via its electronic portal Ashal (Easier). It has since handled a total of 25,565, according to official figures.

Kuwait has recently set new controls to regulate its labour market amid the global coronavirus pandemic.
