Karachi: The Sindh government has completed the construction of Pakistan’s biggest mass COVID-19 vaccination facility in Karachi. It took just a week to complete.

The facility constructed at the Karachi’s Expo Centre will also be unique in the sense that it will vaccinate people round-the-clock.

The facility is likely to be inaugurated on Sunday (May 9). It will vaccinate up to 30,000 people in a day. Special arrangements are being made to vaccinate the woman visitors to the centre.

The mass vaccination facility has been established on the directives of Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah. Sindh government’s Works and Services Department started work to establish the facility on 48,000 square feet area of the Expo Centre on May 2.

The vaccination facility will function alongside the field isolation facility being revived at the Karachi’s Expo Centre to treat the patients of coronavirus.

Sindh government’s spokesman Barrister Murtaza Wahab said that the new mass vaccination facility would serve as an important milestone in the government’s efforts to provide free of charge vaccination against coronavirus infection.

He urged the people who were above 40 to visit at the earliest the vaccination centres established by the government to get free inoculation against the deadly viral disease.

Barrister Wahab said the Sindh government had also started engaging the private hospitals in the province to provide free coronavirus vaccination.

Home vaccinations

He said the Sindh government had also launched the special service to vaccinate at home the people who for any reason could not leave their home like the age factor or any severe disability or illness.

He said that the Sindh government had also been doing free of charge coronavirus testing of the people who developed the symptoms of the viral disease. He said that such people were just required to contact the helpline of the Sindh Health Department. “The staff of the Health Department will come to your home to perform the coronavirus test,” he said.
