COVID-19: Famous Pakistani politician Shahbaz Sharif tests coronavirus positive
Dubai: Famous Pakistani politician Shahbaz Sharif has tested coronavirus positive joining the long list of lawmakers infected with the deadly virus.
Sharif is President of the leading political party — Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) — and is Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly of Pakistan. He is also the younger brother of the former Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Shari. He has also served as Chief Minister of Punjab.
Mariam Aurangzeb, a spokesperson of the PML-N confirmed on Thursday morning that Sharif has tested positive for the novel coronavirus. She said that Sharif has gone into self-quarantine for 14-days at his residence in Lahore.
Early this week, former Prime Minister of Pakistan Shahid Khaqan Abbasi also tested COVID-19 positive. He is also senior-vice president of the PML-N. Federal Railways Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed is another famous politician who announced to go into self-isolation after tested positive a few days ago.
According to official tally, coronavirus cases have risen to 119,536 on Thursday morning. The virus has claimed lives of 2,356 patients while 38,391 people have recovered so far in Pakistan.
