Dubai: Twelve orphans got their wish granted, courtesy of the Ministry of Community Development’s (MoCD) initiative called ‘Fi Al Shoufa’ (as you wish in English). The gift-giving was part of the observance of Orphan Day in the Muslim World, coinciding every 15th day of Ramadan.

Fi Al Shoufa was supervised by the Social Protection Department at MoCD and the initiative was implemented in collaboration with Emirates Islamic Bank which provided financial support for purchasing the gifts. Emirates Red Crescent and Ajman Centre provided the list of orphans eligible for support.

One child was shown receiving a new smartphone while another received a bicycle. The beneficiaries were given vouchers from Al Waha Shopping Centre, in addition to ‘Sidret Al Omniat’ as well as ‘orphan child eidya’ or cash gift given to children as part of celebrating the joy of Eid.

Community cohesion

MoCD celebrates Orphan’s Day every year, “demonstrating the keenness of the UAE and the community to provide welfare to all the members of the society, particularly children, and to ensure they have an active role in national development”.
