Abu Dhabi: The Integrated Transport Centre (ITC), part of Abu Dhabi’s Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) and operating under the oversight of the Smart and Autonomous Systems Council (SASC), has unveiled the Autonomous Vehicles Integrated Testing, Operations, and Management System (AViTOMS) at DRIFTx 2025, a highlight of the inaugural Abu Dhabi Autonomous Week (ADAW).

First-of-its-kind platform in MENA

The advanced, centralised digital platform—the first of its kind in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region—is designed to manage all stages of testing and operating autonomous vehicles in Abu Dhabi, improving operational efficiency and safety in line with approved sector regulations.

Comprehensive coverage of operations

AViTOMS covers every operational stage for autonomous vehicles, from registration, application, and permitting, through trial supervision and technical data analysis, to full commercial operations, ensuring safe processes and procedural accuracy at every step.

Real-time oversight and smart tools

The platform enables ITC to exercise comprehensive oversight of autonomous vehicle trials by receiving and reviewing applications, assessing companies’ readiness, and issuing permits across four structured testing phases. It monitors operations in real time and can intervene when necessary, enhancing response speed and coordination with relevant government entities.

AViTOMS includes a suite of smart tools for end-to-end operations management:

  • Online application portal and digital workflow system

  • Interactive maps for real-time vehicle tracking

  • Dashboards to monitor operational status and incidents

  • Instant shutdown feature for operational faults

  • Secure, real-time data exchange among stakeholders to strengthen oversight and compliance

Driving Abu Dhabi’s autonomous mobility vision

Dr Abdulla Hamad AlGhfeli, Acting Director-General of ITC, said: “This platform marks a step change in the regulation and operation of autonomous vehicles in Abu Dhabi. It enhances operational efficiency and elevates safety standards through a unified digital system that enables intelligent oversight of every stage of testing and operations. The project aligns with Abu Dhabi’s vision to build a safe, smart, and sustainable transport ecosystem that supports digital transformation and keeps pace with global advances in autonomous systems.”

The launch of AViTOMS reflects ITC’s leading role in strengthening the legislative and regulatory framework for smart mobility in Abu Dhabi. By developing advanced digital tools, the centre raises operational performance, ensures the highest safety standards, and supports government priorities to adopt future technologies and AI, cementing Abu Dhabi’s position as a global hub for innovation in autonomous mobility.
