Dubai: A Saudi orthopaedic surgeon died of a heart attack while performing surgery on a patient at Khamis Mushait Hospital in Asir region, south-west Saudi Arabia, local media reported.
The consultant, Mahdi Al Emari, insisted on doing the operation despite suffering from stomach pain.
Dr. Majid Al Shehri, head of the orthopaedic department at the hospital, said medical examinations revealed Al Emari had a heart attack that caused his death.
“Al Emari set an example of sacrifice that a doctor can do until the last moment of his life. Despite his severe stomach pains, he insisted on conducting the surgery for the patient. He died while performing his work. He is a work martyr,” Dr. Al Shehri said.
The story of Dr. Al Emari was circulated on social media, where users described him a martyr who sacrificed his life to save another.
