Cairo: A dress-making workshop has been shut down in Saudi Arabia’s western city of Taif after surveillance cameras were found inside, a media report has said.

Municipal inspectors found out about the presence of the cameras inside the shop serving women, Saudi online newspaper Sabq reported.

An official violation was promptly registered, and the shop was closed.

Female workers at the site were required to notify the owner to check with local authorities and face legal penalties for the violation, the paper said without elaborating.

The shutdown was aimed at protecting customers’ privacy. The facility will not be allowed to reoperate without removing the cameras, according to the report.
