Cairo: Kuwait will reopen its mosques for congregational prayers starting from Wednesday after a shutdown of around three months, Minister of Awqaf Fahad Al Afasy said.
The group prayers inside the mosques will begin with the Duhr prayers on Wednesday, he added following a meeting Sunday with heads of mosques in the country’s six governorates.
“The reopening of mosques to receive worshippers comes to respond to the call for prayer,” Al Afasy said in media remarks.
“I call on all worshippers to follow the instructions issued by the health bodies for safety. Abidance by these rules will limit the spread of the coronavirus,” he said, according to Al Rai newspaper.
He added that his ministry has completed preparations for mosque reopening including sterilization to protect health inside the places of worship.
However, the Friday prayers will be held only inside the Grand Mosque in Kuwait City starting from this week with the participation of its employees and will be broadcast live on the state television, the minister said.
Earlier this month, Kuwait started implementing a phased plan allowing the gradual return to normal life after a lockdown prompted by an outbreak of the new coronavirus.
