Karachi: Sindh Governor, Kamran Khan Tessori, has warned the Station House Officers (SHOs) heading police stations in the province to improve their work in the next 48 hours and start performing their duties diligently so that innocent citizens do not lose their lives at the hands of street criminals.

The Sindh Governor issued this stern warning in a video message after he met the bereaved family of 21-year-old Bilal Naseer who recently lost his life while resisting an armed robbery attempt in Karachi in broad daylight.

Naseer was a third-year student in the Petroleum Engineering degree programme at the NED University of Engineering & Technology. The killing of Bilal was widely condemned by political parties and social figures.

Tessori assured the bereaved father of Bilal that any park or road in Karachi would be named after his late son to keep his memory alive.

He said that innocent residents of Karachi, especially students and other young people, continued to fall victim to lethal acts of armed street robberies as no compensation could fill the void in the lives of bereaved families created due to the sudden demise of their loved ones.

“Enough is enough as these deadly incidents in Karachi should come to an immediate halt as the police have to perform its basic duties in this regard,” he said.

Tessori warned the SHOs that they would have to face stern action if any more law-abiding person lost his life due to any incident of street crime in their respective jurisdiction.

“If any more such lethal incident happens anywhere in Karachi I’ll go straight to the police station in whose jurisdiction another innocent life has been harmed. I will sit with its SHO to make sure that stern policing is ensured in his area so that there shouldn’t be a repeat of any such sorrowful incident,” he said.

He asked the SHOs and deputy superintendents of police to leave their offices at once and start patrolling in the areas to prevent such violent crimes against citizens.

The Governor asked the Inspector General of Sindh Police and the Karachi Police chief to live up to their reputation as honest, dutiful, dedicated, and upright officials to make sure that field police officers under their command should take decisive action against the menace of street crimes.
