Mumbai: The cyclonic storm in the Arabian Sea may have spared India's western coast but the stormy weather has resulted in at least four deaths and extensive damage to houses and crops — particularly the fishing community in Maharashtra.

Over 110 fishermen are untraceable and search operations by the Indian Navy and Coast Guard are still under way, said a Coast Guard spokesman.

Chief Minister Ashok Chavan said the survey of damage to crops and property would be conducted within five days.

"Though the cyclone did not intensify but debilitated at landfall at 4.30 pm on Wednesday, the fishermen have borne the brunt of heavy rains and strong winds," S.C. Mohanty, Director, Disaster Management Cell, told Gulf News.

One man died after a coconut tree fell on him.
