Thuraya and ComoreTel, a global toll-free services company, yesterday announced the world's first international toll-free service to operate over a major satellite network.
The pact extends ComoreTel's Global 269 international toll-free solutions to all of Thuraya's coverage area - a landmass covering some of the remotest parts of Europe, Middle East, Africa, the CIS and South Asia, inhabited by 2.3 billion people.
"ComoreTel's partnership with Thuraya is a major innovation within our sector. For the first time the ease-of-use and cost control benefits of toll-free access will be available to even the remotest regions of the world," said Paul Mumford, vice-president of sales, Como-reTel.
Communications Service Providers are now able to offer their customers a single Global 269 number which allows toll-free calls from Thuraya's satellite phone network.
The same Global 269 number can also be used to make toll-free calls from any fixed or mobile network which supports the Global 269 service.
"With this agreement, Thuraya now supports the Global 269 service from our world-class satellite network," said Jamal Al Jarwan, executive manager, business development, Thuraya.
"In a single step, Thuraya has provided ComoreTel with access from all of the 106 countries within the Thuraya coverage area," he said.
ComoreTel is a joint venture between ComoreTel Holdings Ltd and SNPT Comoros. Global 269 is marketed as a wholesale service to communications service providers seeking to offer their multinational customers international toll-free services at competitive rates.
