On June 23, when I reached home in the afternoon, I heard a kitten’s soft meow. After a few minutes of searching, I saw her. She was a newborn, maybe three or four hours old, and was trying to walk but kept twisting in the same place besides the garbage.
I wondered about the mother and quickly looked for her. She was under a parked car, still covered in blood after the delivery. I put some water and food for her and called my sister.
We tried to unite the mother with its baby, but she refused. We then decided to take the kitten in. My sister cut off the kitten’s placenta and took her upstairs while I went to buy appropriate milk and food for it.
After feeding the kitten, I washed her and fixed her a bed to sleep in. The same night, my sister went downstairs to feed the cats in our area, when she heard another kitten crying not far from the place where we had found the first one.
She called me, and I hurried downstairs. When we followed the kitten’s noise, we reached the garbage room of our building. We entered the room and found two more kittens. We took them also, but their condition was bad.
This is when we realised that the mother cat knew that the kittens were sick and wouldn’t make it and that is why she abandoned them. I washed them and tried to feed them. However, the next morning they both died. The one I had found first was the only survivor.
Initially, the kitten had a problem with suckling. It was hard to make her suck the milk from the bottle. We even took her to one of the stray cats besides our building who had four kittens. But our kitten did not know how to suck the nipple, so we took her back.
I read several articles about newborn kittens and how to feed them and watched many videos, too. But each and every case is unique, as not all cats have the same character and not all kittens are born in the same situation or environment.
She took time to learn, but finally she succeeded. We named her Snow, and she is growing up fast. In fact, her size is equivalent to older kittens. She is healthy, happy and a naughty kitten.
I always tell people that saving a life is an amazing feeling and this is an example of it. Please save abandoned animals.
