This is a plea to the people and authorities of Ras Al Khaimah. My husband and I have been residents of the UAE for over six years and have experienced many wonderful things during our time here.

We explore the area as much as time allows and take great pleasure in all the UAE has to offer. I am writing this community report in response to a very disheartening experience we had last week in the Al Rams area of Ras Al Khaimah.

We heard there was quite a nice beach in Al Rams and thought it would be nice to explore one we had not yet visited, so we decided to go there. But what a disappointment!

This beach has the potential to be the most spectacular beach in all of the UAE, but it is pretty much a garbage dump. I felt sick at the amount of garbage all along the beach.

Death is everywhere

The shore was covered in all kinds of debris, but mostly plastic. There were many beautiful, large manta rays lying dead amongst all the rubbish, which I have no doubt contributed to their demise.

I am sure with the amount of rubbish on the beach, there was just as much in the ocean. This will most likely kill turtles, dolphins and other wonderful creatures that will eat the plastic thinking it is food. What a shame.

There were many people out walking on the beach, but they seemed to be completely oblivious to all the garbage they were walking on and around. It was shocking.

It is too bad, as I would love to take my family and friends from Canada and other parts of the world to this beach.

It has mountains in the background, a small fishing village, a creek, a very clean and well-maintained camel farm and several kilometres of what could be gorgeous beach.

However, covered in garbage as it is, I doubt I will ever return. I certainly would not bring anyone else there. Something really needs to be done with the garbage problem on this beach, as well as other parts of Ras Al Khaimah. There is no need to be so disrespectful of Nature. Let us all do our part and make this a more beautiful place.
