The first steps that a human being takes on the path to knowledge are crucial. At Saint-Charles, we accompany your child on their formative journey and provide them with the tools to ensure future success.

Founded in 1897, the Collège & Lycée Saint-Charles is located in outstanding settings in Ajoie, in the Swiss canton of Jura. The establishment, which welcomes young people between the ages of 10 and 20, is situated on the shoes of the Allaine, in a tree-lined garden at the foot of the magnificent Château de Porrentruy.

Nicknamed the Athens of Jura, this little town has nearly 7,000 inhabitants and is known for its long tradition of education, its openness to the wider world, and its stimulation of the thirst for knowledge.

The Collège & Lycée Saint-Charles offers quality teaching, while focusing on living together and self-knowledge. Teachers and students alike form a coherent whole, and under the banner of supporting growth, Saint-Charles does everything possible to turn young adults into capable citizens of the world. Staff share their curiosity and keen sense of tolerance and freedom with their students.

From primary level through to maturity, the Collège & Lycée Saint-Charles offers a complete educational programme and a range of teaching methods, allowing students to learn at their own pace and find their own personal paths.

The programme, which encompasses the 6th academic year up to the final year of secondary school, is based on Swiss cantonal and federal guidelines and allows pupils access to post-compulsory education pathways (business schools, general education schools, Lyceums) and post-Lyceum pathways (HES, universities, polytechnics).

Renowned for the quality of its foreign language instruction, the Collège & Lycée Saint-Charles offers an immersive language-teaching structure right from the primary level. Students have the option to take specific courses aimed at obtaining official qualifications in German, Italian, and English. A bilingual French-English qualification is being offered as of 2016.

The Collège & Lycée Saint-Charles encourages its students to actively participate in the activities suggested by their teachers throughout the year and to stimulate their intellectual curiosity.

The school also understands that each student is unique. In addition to preferring small classes, Saint-Charles also encourage exchanges between teachers, students and the parents. For children with difficulties in organizing their study load, a specific course is offered. It may be followed over a quarter, a semester, or a full year. In this way, students have the opportunity to learn how to organise and structure their homework.

Saint-Charles also offers students the chance to be involved in extra-curricular activities aimed at encouraging sharing and curiosity. Practiced in groups and supervised by our teachers, these valuable moments present an opportunity for students to develop their talents and knowledge, while learning about others and above all about themselves.

These emerging artists, musicians, singers, actors and dancers are encouraged to present the results of their work during the school’s various ceremonies.
