Phoenix Advertising have announced their First Abu Dhabi Beach Football Tournament, to be played at the Abu Dhabi Tourist Club (ADTC) between August 8 and 24.

Mohammed Awada of Phoenix told a press conference, "The tournament is aimed at keeping most of the youth busy during summer. We are very positive that this tournament will garner a lot of support from the playing teams and the private sector companies. We plan to make this an annual event."

The tournament, which will be played on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday evenings will have a maximum of 32 teams. "We have already received over 20 entries for the event which will be played on a league-cum-knockout basis," Awada added.

The tournament is open to all clubs and nationalities. "We are hoping and expecting a few players from the league to also figure in the tournament. This will no doubt enhance the status of the event and will also encourage the youngsters and novice footballers," Awada said.

While attractive trophies and individual prizes for the top teams as well as for most of the players of the top 10 teams are being worked out, Awada said that a series of prizes are also on offer for spectators.

"Apart from raffles, spectators can pick winners correctly and win prizes every day. We are planning to make it a very popular event to entertain residents of Abu Dhabi during the summer month," he added.

Mohammed Al Mazroui, a member of the Organising Committee said the tournament will be played according to the International Beach Football rules and professional referees will be officiating.

The last date for entries is July 31. More details can be obtained from the Tournament Help Desk at the Abu Dhabi Tourist Club or from Phoenix Advertising, phone 02-6658600, fax 02-6663783.
