Abu Dhabi: The UAE Ministerial Development Council, presided by Shaikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, on Sunday discussed national standards for public and private hospitals, in line with the UAE Vision 2012 strategy to provide high quality and sustainable health services to the UAE society.

The unification of hospital standards complies with the best international standards that focus on the quality of health serves, patient safety, health care specialists and hospital design in addition to other standards concerning medicines and the rights of patients and their families, among other criteria.

The council also discussed the national intellectual property policy in the health field, which is central to protecting the rights of manufacturers of medicines and health products, as well as the rights of scientists and researchers to prevent others from abusing these rights. 

In order to promote and safeguard financial stability in the country and monitor any economic risks domestically and internationally, the council discussed a proposed plan to form financial stability council to ensure the integration of fiscal policies in the country and present recommendations regarding the necessary measures to upgrade the financial system in the country.

In supporting government efforts to ensure the efficient implementation of the tax system and in support of the tourism sector and influx of tourists from different countries, the council discussed the issuance of a decision on the refunding of VAT for tourists. The decision will be administered by the Federal Tax Authority in cooperation with the Federal Customs Authority and local customs departments.
