Dubai:The UIM will witness a significant addition to its annual ‘World Champions Award Gala’ to be held at the Fairmont Monte Carlo Hotel in Monaco on February 23 when the ‘WPPA/UIM Safety Award’ is presented for the first time this year.

The fourth edition of the ‘World Champions Award Gala’ is held each year to recognise and reward the world’s best racers of the year gone by and celebrate the spirit of the sport.

The ‘WPPA/UIM Safety Award’ will be a valuable addition to the annual awards portfolio joining other awards such as the ‘Stefano Casiraghi Memorial Award’ (for special service to the sport) and the ‘UIM Environmental Award’ (for innovation, development and application of environmentally friendly technologies).

“It is our strong bonding with the UIM as our strategic partner that we seek to further develop our sport and take it to the next level,” affirmed Dr. Khalid Zahed, Vice President, WPPA.

“The idea behind instituting an award of this nature is to trigger the sport into thinking about safety first, and we believe that this can be the only way forward for us together,” he added.

Starting this year, the ‘WPPA/UIM Safety Award’ will be given each year to recognize the best practice from a team or individual who contributes towards safety in the sport.

The WPPA will also launch the Safety and Environment Foundation in coordination with the UIM with the aim of attracting entities in contributing financially in support of projects related to safety.
