Contrary to popular expectations, Sweden's Therese Alshammar laid to rest the notion that her lineage has any connection with the Middle East.

"I got my surname from my grandfather and I have no connection with any of the tribes from the Arab world," Alshammar said in response to a query from Gulf News. The tribe of Shammar is one of the largest tribes of Arabia. In its golden age around 1850, the tribe ruled much of central and northern Arabia.
