Frankie Dettori is no stranger to adversity.

He’s been in far worse situations that the one he finds himself in currently following the ban imposed by French Gallop for flouting drug-related rules.

In 2000 he survived a terrifying light place crash at Newmarket that killed the pilot and left Dettori with serious head injuries and a broken ankle after he was rescued from the wreckage by his close friend Ray Cochrane.

Many sportsmen would have rethought their careers after such a terrifying experience, but not Dettori, who said that at one point during the incident, he ‘felt he was going to die.’
