Save Earth and stop the fighting

Fighting is bad and we need to try our best to learn to live peacefully (‘North Korea fires missile, defying US push for new sanctions’, Gulf News, April 30). The world we live in is still beautiful with Nature. Stop ruining its beauty with war. People who are inventing lethal weapons need to stop. Stop using them and start creating friendships, patience, happiness and love for humanity.

There are other ways…

The North Korean administration really knows nothing but violence. If they will start a nuclear war, in the end, every species will die due to a nuclear winter, which they don’t seem to understand! I don’t know why we’re dealing with these kinds of people. We are in the 21st century. Economic sabotage is far more efficient to destroy a country than invasions or war.

Who’s the aggressor?

Mr Kevin, look around you. North Korea is making nuclear weapons to defend their own country from aggressors. The US built bombs and nuclear weapons to bomb innocent civilians like what they have done all over the world. How many countries has North Korea bombed and attacked? Since the Vietnam War until now, how many countries did the US and the UN damage and bomb and kill innocent civilians?

Reducing war

First of all, arms manufacturing should be banned in this world. Only some companies should manufacture weapons under the control of UN. Only then is there any chance of reducing war in the world.

Why create conflict?

I am wondering why only the US is so keen taking on North Korea’s issues. What about other nations, particularly those recognised nuclear powers? Don’t they have any say on this issue?

There are quite a few questions the public can raise and many are a concern to the existence of the world itself. While the US is spending a lot in moving its ships and arms to the Korean peninsula, there is no answer to the question of ensuring the safety of people in South Korea.

What the world is lacking in recent times is only peace. The North Korean issue is not something new and it has many adverse effects on the Koreans. It may also trigger several other issues in the world. If a potential Korean war could lead to million-plus casualties and damages, I’m wondering why would any nation escalate to that extent instead of solving it peacefully. The lessons learned from Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan is that it is easy to initiate a conflict, but difficult to end.

As the author has rightly said, the role of China is critical to ease the tension in the Korean peninsula and it helps save the lives of several millions on Earth, as well the environment to a great extent.

Benefitting the wrong people

The opinion piece on what US President Donald Trump is doing for Americans by Nicholas Kristof was meaningful and thought provoking (‘This isn’t tax policy, it’s a Trump-led heist’, Gulf News, April 28). Kristof has elaborately analysed the way Trump’s administration has failed his voters for the promises made by him and the new tax policy is only the Republican way to cover it up. This tax policy is not clear on how it is going to be implemented. This new policy, if at all implemented, will be taking care of corporations, like the ones owned by Trump. Will this tax policy be welcomed by the American people? We will have to wait and see.

What does he know?

Every time Trump opens his mouth, he sounds completely unaware of what is going on in the world (‘Trump: Saudis ‘not treated us fairly’, Gulf News, April 29). According to the report, Trump said: “There is no reason there can’t be peace between the Israel and the Palestinians.”

He boasts that the US is the greatest fighting force on Earth, yet he can’t defeat Daesh? Perhaps he does not want to defeat them!
