Idukki, Kerala: Grade 5 student Roshna T. Henry was yesterday allowed back into her class three weeks after her school reopened.
Roshna had been staging a sit-in along with her parents outside the Tata High Range School, run by the former employers of her father, after being left out of school on grounds that her father was no longer employed with the Tata Tea company.
Admission to the institution is reserved for children of Tata Tea employees.
Roshna and her parents had been picketing near the school gates here after the school gave her a "transfer certificate".
After reconciliation talks between the school authorities, Tata Tea officials and Roshna's parents yesterday, the school relented and agreed to re-admit her. But it stipulated that she would not be eligible for fee concessions offered to Tata Tea employees.
The school issued the transfer certificate contending that Roshna's father had not joined work for the past two years after he was transferred.
Her father, Henry Joseph, said there was a court case against his transfer and that no decision on the girl's schooling could be taken till the case was settled. He alleged the school had diluted admission requirements by taking in children of the local legislator, while the rules stipulated that admission was restricted to children of Tata Tea employees.
