Abu Dhabi: The Indian Government has changed the name of the Indian Workers Resource Centre (IWRC), a welfare initiative for providing support to Indian expatriates in need.

‘Pravasi Bharatiya Sahayata Kendra’ (PBSK) will be the new name of the centre with immediate effect, the Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi announced on Thursday.

The IWRC had started functioning in Dubai on November 23, 2010 and in Sharjah on August 15, 2017.

With the name change, the IWRC centres in Dubai and Sharjah will hereafter be referred to as Pravasi Bharatiya Sahayata Kendra, Dubai (PBSK-DB) and Pravasi Bharatiya Sahayata Kendra, Sharjah (PBSK-SJ), respectively.

Indian expatriates in the UAE can call the centres on a 24x7 toll-free helpline number 80046342 (800 INDIA) for all issues concerning overseas Indian community in the UAE. The services are free of charge.

The PBSK helpline will also act as a helpline for UAE Amnesty 2018 for assisting the Indian community.

The core activities of PBSK are receiving, registering and monitoring grievance petitions and providing answers to enquiries; providing legal, financial and personal counselling by experts; conducting awareness campaigns; liaison with help-groups, individual social workers and related bodies to offer assistance to Indians; verifying the genuineness of job offers from respective companies or UAE local authorities and reply by email to the person concerned etc.
