Riyadh: Prince Al Waleed Bin Talal appointed the renowned journalist Jamal Khashoggi to head the new news channel that is scheduled to be launched in the near future and is owned by Al Waleed.

He confirmed that the channel will be independent from Rotana Holding and will focus on development in Saudi Arabia and the Arab world on the political, economic and social fronts.

The 24-hour channel with reporters from the Arab world will broadcast from different bureaus to cover the news from the region and the world. Moreover, the channel will also highlight the talents of young people in various fields.

Al Waleed commented: "We no longer have a void in the Arab world as it is now heavily occupied, therefore the new news channel is going to become an addition and an alternative for viewers. Our personal aim is to achieve this."

Specialist team

The exclusive, modern and progressive news channel will be one of the largest locally and regionally. It will consist of a specialist team in the news broadcasting field to cater for different viewing needs. Furthermore, it will be an addition to the colossal media investments owned by Al Waleed.

Khashoggi was editor-in-chief of Alwatan Newspaper, media adviser to Prince Turki Al Faisal at both embassies in London and Washington DC, and has been known as a correspondent and writer since his graduation from the University of the State of Indiana in 1982.

Al Waleed has a strong presence and influence in the media through his investments in media and entertainment in the Arab world, and beyond like the Saudi Research and Marketing Group (SRMG), News Corporation and Rotana Holding.

In only a short period of time since its launch, Rotana owns the largest Arabic film library and Arabic music archive.
