Irresponsible drivers waste precious parking space by misusing designated lots and cause others to search for hours.
The whole of Abu Dhabi is well aware of the chaos one faces when searching for a parking spot. One such location is the Tourist Club area. One would definitely be shocked if one manages to find a parking space within 20 minutes of arriving in this area.
Often, we have to go around looking for a spot and it takes from 45 minutes to over an hour to finally find one.
The maximum amount of time I have spent looking for parking is almost two hours - no exaggeration! Often, people are forced to park their cars far beyond this sector, as far as Abu Dhabi Mall and then walk home.
In such circumstances, when one sees that motorists are misusing parking spaces, it gets extremely frustrating. At the end of the day, when people are tired and just want to get home, the thought of spending hours looking for a parking space obviously gives everyone more stress.
People quite often do not follow parking rules and regulations. Is this because of their frustration or is it a mere display of their irresponsible attitude toward others? Even though motorists are well-educated about traffic rules, we still find such problems occurring around the city.
If people do not have compassion for other drivers, how could we expect to have a peaceful driving community?
Another scenario we often come across is that some frustrated drivers who find such wrongly parked cars, leave scratches across the body of the cars.
After the Abu Dhabi Police insisted on holding training lessons for new licence-holders a few years ago, we hoped there would finally be a more peaceful driving and parking experience. However, things continue to be complicated and chaotic!
