A word of caution

Dr M. Ashfaq Konchwalla, an orthopaedic surgeon at Medcare Hospital, says that attempting too much too soon can result in stress injuries to the weight-bearing parts of the bodies.

"Slimming down should involve a progressive programme that starts off with light exercise first and slowly increases in intensity," he says.

To exercise safely, consult a specialist before starting on a new programme, combine your workout with a healthy, low-calorie diet and always remember to warm up for at least 20 minutes before training.
