When you find yourself dancing along with your child after the curtains come down for Shrek, The Musical, then you know that the gigantic green ogre (played by Kyle Timson) and the bunch of lovable losers has done a fabulous job of charming you.
And when your five-year-old companion, on her drive home, reminds you that it doesn’t matter if you are pretty or not, everyone is beautiful, you know that Shrek has done a lot more than just entertain. The swamp-dwelling ogre just imparted one of life’s important lessons in the most engaging manner. Here’s a little prayer for him.
Shrek The Musical, which is based on the Dreamworks trilogy and is touring the UAE now, is an entertaining mixture of romance, comedy and drama.
As organiser Liz Koops, CEO of Broadway Entertainment Group, promised, there’s something fabulous for both adults and children alike.
The fart jokes between princess Fiona (Lindsay Dunn) and Shrek (we laughed the loudest here), the tap dance of Fiona and the rats, the humungous fire-breathing dragon (brought to life beautifully on the stage) and the witty exchange between the talking donkey and Shrek brings a smile to your face.
But be warned, the show is more than two hours long and the younger children may get fidgety midway.
However, stay with these bunch of lovable misfits. They will draw you into their imperfect worlds and remind you that appearances shouldn’t ideally matter. It’s what is underneath that counts. Consider us sold.
Don’t Miss It
