Abu Dhabi: Saudi police have busted a power cable theft gang of five, who were allegedly behind a string of cases in Saudi Arabia over the past weeks, said Colonel Shaker Al Tuwaijri, spokesperson of the Riyadh Police.

Colonel Al Tuwaijri said the five suspects (Bangladeshi and four Pakistanis, aged between 30s and 60s), were hardcore criminals with involvement in 14 incidents of theft of copper cables and electrical circuit breakers from homes under construction in the neighbourhoods of Laban Suburb, Al Suwaidi and Shubra, Al Sahafa, Al Batha and Al Shafa in the Saudi capital.

The police also seized a transport vehicle loaded with stolen goods, Colonel Al Tuwaijri said.

He said the suspects were remanded to police custody pending referral to the Public Prosecution for investigation and trial.
