Impersonators of Saudi broadcasters to face legal action

Journalists Association mulls suing those using 'wrong practices' to attract audiences

Abu Dhabi: The Saudi Journalists Association has said it will sue people who impersonate media personalities or broadcasters to attract audiences, it said in a statement.

“The Saudi Journalists Association has followed some wrong practices by some intruders on the media profession, from advertisers and others in social media, who impersonate a “media person” while they are far from working in this field, as they resort to actions aimed at gaining the greatest credit from simple audiences to attract advertisers,” the statement said.

The authority has taken a number of measures aimed at controlling media practice and protecting the profession, including addressing the competent authorities, it added.

Expressing its confidence in the application of the regulations governing media activity, association said it was discussing with legal advisors accountability mechanisms for those who abuse the media profession and violate the rules and regulations that regulate media practice.

The Saudi Journalists Association was founded in 2004 to serve the professional objectives of journalists in Saudi Arabia.

These objectives includes defending the interests and rights of the journalists and promoting the freedom of opinion and expression in their professional practices.
