Cash-for-driving licence scam for women exposed in Saudi Arabia

Cairo: Saudi police had arrested a man suspected of defrauding women in several parts of the country, allegedly to get them driving licences in exchange for money, a local television reported.

Security agencies were able to identify the suspect after receiving several legal complaints against him, added state television Al Ekhabriya.

He was found to have bilked money out of seven women, it said. Neither the identity or nationality of the suspect was disclosed.

Al Ekhbariya also shed light on fraudulent practices targeting women who want to get a driving licence in what the television branded as a black market.

In 2018, Saudi Arabia allowed women to drive for the first time in its history, ending a decades-old ban on female driving.
