COVID-19: Qatar reports highest-single day increase in coronavirus cases
Dubai: Qatar’s Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) on Friday announced the highest single day increase in coronavirus infections with 560 new cases confirmed, according to the Qatari News Agency (QNA)
This brings the total number of COVID-19 patients in the country to 4663.
The ministry has also announced the recovery of 49 cases, taking the total number of people recovered so far in Qatar to 464.
Most of the new cases of COVID-19 are linked to people being in contact with existing cases among citizens and residents and a number of the new cases are among migrant workers.
Some cases of the virus were discovered among citizens and residents who contacted health authorities after experiencing symptoms of inflammation in the respiratory system. The newly infected cases are now under complete isolation and are receiving necessary medical care.
The ministry noted that the noticeable increase in the number of new cases is attributed to several reasons, including the fact that the spread of the virus has started to enter into the peak stage, which is the highest wave that affects the country, and may continue to increase for a period before it starts to decline, according to Qatar Today.
It is also due to the steady increase in efforts of the Ministry and its medical teams to track the transmission chains of the Covid-19 and conduct intensive and proactive investigations of groups of contacts with people who were diagnosed with the disease previously.
Health officials urged all members of society to cooperate fully and adhere to all health guidelines and preventive measures to reduce the risk of infection, including following social and physical distancing guidelines. They also recommend to regularly visit the MOPH website for the most up-to-date guidance on ensuring safety against Covid-19.
