Cairo: Kuwait expects to gross KD9.6 million in fees from expatriates’ residency permits in the current fiscal year, a local newspaper said, citing official figures.

The projected revenues include KD3.35 million worth of fees from foreign domestic workers and KD6.25 million in fees from dependents of migrant workers, Al Rai added.

Domestic workers in Kuwait are estimated at about 744,000, of whom 92 per cent are from India, the Philippines, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

Indians account for 47.4 per cent of the domestic workers in Kuwait, followed by Filipinos with 21.4 per cent, according to figures from the Kuwaiti Public Authority for Civil Information.

Foreigners make up nearly 3.4 million of Kuwait’s overall 4.8 million population.
