Kuwait expats over 60 can switch to family visa
Law does not prevent them from modifying their legal status
Kuwait City: After news broke last week that Kuwait will stop renewing residency permits for expats over the age of 60, thousands of foreigners are considering switching to a family residency permit as an alternative way of staying in the country, Al Rai media reported.
The Director General of the Public Authority for Manpower, Ahmed Al Mousa, told Al Rai, “The authority is continuing to implement the decision,” indicating that “[they have] given the target group a period to make the administrative arrangements and to amend their legal status, as the decision will not be applied to them until January 1, 2021.”
Those who have valid residency permits will be able to stay in Kuwait but must leave once their residency is over.
He pointed out that those who are affected by the law are expats over the age of 60 and those who hold a high school diploma or less. Those who hold a post-secondary diploma or higher are not affected by the new decision.
