COVID-19: Kuwait sets temporary limits on air travellers
Number of arrivals curtails to 1,000 per day on health grounds
Cairo: Kuwait has decided to curtail the numbers of air passengers arriving at the country for two weeks, starting from Sunday in an effort to contain the global coronavirus pandemic.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has instructed airlines to reduce the numbers of arrivals in Kuwait over the period from January 24 to February 6.
“The decision covers all airlines operating at the Kuwait Airport and limits the numbers of arrivals to 1,000 passengers per day,” head of Air Transport at DGCA Abdullah Al Rajhi said.
He told Al Anba newspaper that Kuwaiti health authorities have stressed the necessity of caution over the next two weeks to control the coronavirus spread and its new strains.
“The DGCA decision will be effective for two weeks until labs are finalised at the Kuwait International Airport to conduct tests for arrivals,” he added.
Domestic workers and transit passengers are exempted from the DGCA decision, according to the official.
The airlines, Al Rajhi said, will reschedule its flights to comply with the decision in a way preserving rights of passengers, who have already booked for flights during the coming two weeks.
