Karachi: The federal and Sindh governments have collectively announced a compensation of Rs3 million for the bereaved family of van driver Mohammad Khalid Nawaz, of the Confucius Institute of the University of Karachi. He lost his life in the April 26 terrorist attack.

The Sindh government will pay Rs1 million while Federal Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah, on behalf of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced Rs2 million for the bereaved family.

On the directives of Sharif, the Interior Minister reached Karachi to review the security affairs of Sindh after the suicide bombing in Karachi.

Both Sanaullah and Sindh Chief Minister, Syed Murad Ali Shah, went to the residence of late Khalid Nawaz in Gulshan-e-Maymar area of the city on Wednesday night to offer condolences. Earlier, both co-chaired a top-level meeting at the CM House to review security-related issues in the province.

The deceased had seven children; Shah said the Sindh government will bear the educational expenses of the deceased’s children. A family member of the deceased driver will also be given a government job.

One of the daughters of the deceased driver is getting married after Eid Al Fitr. The CM made a commitment to support the bereaved family in this regard, too.

Talking to media persons, Sanaullah said the financial assistance announced by the federal and provincial governments couldn’t compensate for the loss of the breadwinner of the family but it would facilitate the lives of the bereaved persons.

He said that all the resources available to the federal government would remain at the disposal of the Sindh CM for maintaining security in the province.
