Pakistan: Sindh Police unveils hand-held gadget ‘Talaash’ to catch criminals

It can also detect fake vehicle plates; new app has data of 1.5 million criminals

Karachi: The Sindh Police has launched its hand-held high-tech gadget and application “Talaash” for prompt and real-time detection of criminals and absconders, especially those involved in street crimes in Karachi.

Highlighting the special features of the new gadget to media persons, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Parvez Ahmed Chandio, who heads the IT section of the police, said the new policing app had the data of 1.5 million criminals in the province.

He said the new device was easy to carry and would be given to police officers deployed at roadside checkpoints for prompt identification of any criminal wanted by the police.

The gadget would also be used for the detection of fake vehicle registration plates and driving licences during roadside checking.

The Talaash device would use the biometric system for detection of the suspects through the database of the National Database and Registration Authority.

Chandio said that Talaash would also be helpful to promptly identify a dead body through fingerprints.

He said that another feature of the app was the detection of imposters involved in police impersonation to cheat people.

Inspector-General of Sindh Police, Ghulam Nabi Memon, said the Talaash app would be launched in other districts of the province.

He said the launch of the app reflected the resolve of the police to use the latest technology to step up its drive to catch criminals and safeguard the lives of people.

The new gadget would go a long way to improve the operational and investigation services of the police.

He praised the hard work of the officials in the IT wing of the Sindh Police to introduce the latest technology to maintain law and order in the province.

He mentioned that the Sindh Chief Minister had released the funds required for the adoption of the latest technology to upgrade the policing system.
