Dubai: With the start of Ramadan only a few days away, several supermarkets and retailers in the UAE are offering customers huge discounts of up to 50 per cent on basic and various household items.

Dubai’s Union Coop outlets are set to roll out 50 per cent off on essential food and consumer products, giving relief to residents who are tightening their budget amidst the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Khalid Humaid bin Diban Al Falasi, CEO of the Union Cooperative, said they are also considering extending working hours to meet the needs of consumers during the holy month, while strictly adhering to safety measures. Union Coop earlier announced it will not allow children inside its stores.

Essential items delivered to your home

In support of the government’s call to stay at home, LuLu Group is offering not just discounts but also home delivery of pre-packed essential items.

The hypermarket chain has come up with ‘Family Ramadan kits’ available for big and small families. The big family pack will have at least 22 grocery items, including rice, sugar, tea, milk and other food items while the smaller kits will have 14 items. There are also pre-packed assorted fruit and meat packages.

“Shelves will be fully-stocked for the season. We are committed to serving the community during these unprecedented times,” said the company in a statement.

Meanwhile, Ramadan packages under Dh100 are available across stores under Al Maya Group. Kamal Vachani, group director of Almaya Group, said: “We assure our customers that we are giving very good deals. We have Ramadan boxes priced as low as Dh99 in all our supermarkets, containing various necessary items during the holy month.”

The Ajman Cooperative Society has also announced a 50 per cent discount on essential commodities.
